Ms. Bird is a Canadian soprano, praised as a “powerful coloratura soprano [who] sings with precision and secure top notes” (Christopher Hoile, 2022). Her performances have been described as displaying “theatrical poise, technical assurance, and an abundance of charm” (Opera Going Toronto, 2023). A graduate of the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music, she holds both a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Voice Performance and an Artist Diploma. In 2024, she made her professional debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro with Pacific Opera Victoria. She is a 2025 laureate of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques of Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 and a member of Calgary Opera’s McPhee Young Artist Program (2025/2026). Recent appearances include the Cousin in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Little Red Riding Hood, and the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel (January 2026). Opera Canada (2026) wrote that the Sandman and Dew Fairy “tucked into their great tunes with commitment, making their time on stage more memorable than the length of time they are actually onstage.” Next season, Ms. Bird will perform the Mayor in Pied Piper and will serve as understudy for La Fée in Calgary Opera’s Cendrillon (2027), where she will also debut as Noémie and Spirit 1.
Other roles include Adele in Die Fledermaus with Toronto City Opera (2023), where her performance of the Laughing Aria was described as “smooth and sly as a flirtatious wink” (Opera Going Toronto). That same year, she served as Soprano Section Lead and understudy for Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. In 2024, Ms. Bird sang Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore and understudied Adina—her Giannetta was praised for its “pleasing vocal quality,” especially in ensemble work (Opera Canada). In March 2025, she debuted as Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor, and in May 2025, she took part in the North American premiere of Quid sit musicus by Philippe Leroux with the Noise Academy.
In January 2025, she won an Encouragement Award in the Toronto/Buffalo district of the Laffont Competition. She was also a finalist in the Toronto Mozart Competition (2023) and the Atelier Lyrique National Auditions of Opéra de Montréal (2022). That same year, she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Armida in GGS’s Rinaldo by Handel. John Gilks (Opera Canada) commended her “appropriate vocal fireworks,” while Christopher Hoile (Stage Door) praised her comedic and dramatic balance in the aria “Ah! crudel, Il pianto mio.”Earlier performances include Milica in Ana Sokolović’s Svadba and Young Heidi in Stephen Sondheim’s Follies (2021), where her duet with Mary Lou Fallis was noted as a standout moment (La Scena Musicale). Additional credits include Annunciata in William Bolcom’s Lucrezia (2020), Papagena in The Magic Flute (2019), and Cecily Cardew in the Canadian operetta The Importance of Being Earnest by Eugene Benson and Victor Davies (2018).
In addition to her operatic work, Miss Bird is equally accomplished in concert repertoire. She has performed with the Upper Canada Chorus, Toronto Concert Choir, Novi Singers Toronto, and the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra, and is an experienced solo recitalist. In 2023, she performed Stabat Mater with Music Niagara and previously took part in the world premiere of Anna Höstman’s IceFolding during the 21C Festival at Mazzoleni Hall (2019). Alongside her performing career, Ms. Bird is a passionate vocal teacher. She has guided students through Royal Conservatory of Music exams, including a student who earned the Gold Medal for Grade 2 Voice in 2012. She is committed tofostering new talent as the Artistic Director of Crashcat Studios, a company dedicated to empowering young artists.
